Copyright for illustrators
This video is about copyright. It is for illustrators, but the information in here is useful for any creative practitioner. What is copyright? Why is copyright important for a creative freelancer? What should you do about copyright infringement?
What is copyright?
Anything an illustrator creates is their property, they own it. In all kinds of creative fields copyright is essential to those creatives making a living. If you own the rights an illustration, you can license it to a client and when that client is finished using it, you are free to license it out to a different client if you wish. You can potentially continue to make money from an illustration indefinitely. If you sell, or give away your copyright, however, you no long have any legal right to it.
It’s essential for any creative professional to understand copyright, and why it is important.
