Giving up on illustration…?
This video is about persevering with your illustration career, even when your enthusiasm dips. It can take a long time to establish yourself as an illustrator and many people give up before they reach their goal.
Thinking about giving up?
Running out of ideas? Can’t find enough clients? Can’t make enough money? Not enough time? sick of being rejected, or ignored?
Your enthusiasm as a freelancer illustrator will vary through your career. The most difficult part is the beginning before you are making any money from your work. You might start out at full speed and 100% effort, but without some concrete milestones to celebrate along the way, you’ll wonder if you’re on the right path. A year is a long time to keep trying at something if you’re not being recognised or rewarded for it.
If you do quit your dream of becoming an illustrator, you might always be wondering what could have happened if you’d just given it an extra 6 months.
If you stick it out, you’ll almost definitely find it difficult to make ends meet at first, you might feel jealous towards your peers who are doing really well. You might feel like a failure. Only a small number of beginner illustrators make it to being a full time professional.
Is it worth it? Do you want it badly enough? Freelancing is definitely not for everyone.
